Overview
Technical record / 0015
The Medipix family of hybrid pixel detectors is developed by an international collaboration led by designers at CERN. Originally invented for pattern recognition in particle tracing at the LHC, this technology has evolved into a versatile platform for single photon counting across multiple application domains.
Multiple chip generations are available: Medipix2 (256×256 pixels, 55µm pixel size, 1MHz counting rate), Medipix3 (charge summing mode for color imaging), and Timepix3 (simultaneous ToA and ToT measurement with 10ns time binning). All chips are 3-side buttable for tiling into larger arrays.
